Measure

Helpful Hints Before You Begin Measuring for Blinds:
  • • For the most accurate measurements, only use a steel tape measure.
  • • Do not mix up width and height measurements. Always follow the width by height format (W x H) and mark them as such.
  • • Measure down to the nearest 1/8 of inch.
  • • If you are measuring for more than one window, measure each one individually – never assume that your windows are the same size, even if they look alike.

Inside Mount

  • 1. Make sure that your window has enough depth to accommodate the product unless you do not mind headrail sticking out. Our Headrail depth is 3 inches. If your window lacks the required depth and don’t like headrail sticking out, please choose outside mount.
  • 2. If you prefer complete light blocking, we recommend ordering outside mount with added width and height each side.
  • 3. Provide the exact window opening size. Take NO deductions. The factory will deduct 5mm to make sure shades fit snugly in the window and will operate properly. Please note that inside mounted Roller and Zebra shades will have a vertical light gap between the shade and the window frame of approximately 3/4″ on one side to accommodate the operating mechanisms.
  • Width: Measure the width in 3 places: top, middle and bottom, use the narrowest measurement.
  • Height: Measure the height in 3 places: left, middle and right, use the longest measurement.

Outside Mount

  • 1. Specify the exact width and height you want your product. Your product will be made to the exact size you specify.
  • 2. Add extra width on the sides, top and bottom for more privacy and light blockage. It is recommended to add at least 1 inch to cover trims. Add 2 to 3 inches to each for properly blocking light. 3. Be aware of obstructions like molding, doorknobs and deadbolts that might get in the way of your blind. Use spacer blocks or extension brackets if available to help clear these obstructions.
  • Width: Measure the width in 3 places: top, middle and bottom, use the longest measurement.
  • Height: Measure the height in 3 places: left, middle and right, use the longest measurement.

How to Measure Window Blinds for Bay Windows

When measuring window blinds for bay windows, you will need calculate the intersecting points of the blinds to determine the width of each piece. The first step is to select a window shade noting that different types of shades will have different depths. Once you have selected the blinds or shades, you will be able to get the depth you need to calculate the intersection point. See the product specifications for exact depths.

For Zebra and Roller Blinds: Depth is 3.5 inches.

On bay window blinds, there will be a slight gap where the window treatments meet. Even with the most precise measurements, there will be light and privacy gaps. Follow these easy steps to measure your blinds:

  • Bay Window Blinds
  • Cut two pieces of cardboard at the thickness of what the window blinds would be and approximately 12 inches long. Once again see the specific product specifications for the depth.
  • Position the pieces of cardboard so the front edges meet as if they are the actual window blinds at each intersection point (See image).
  • Make a small mark on the front edge where they intersect. Repeat the step for both blind intersection points.
  • The next step is to measure each bow window blinds. The left blind measurement will be from the intersection point we marked to the window frame. Make sure that your measurement is an equal distance away from the window as the intersection point. Follow the same step for the right blind using the right intersection point.
  • Measure the center bay blinds by measuring the distance from each intersection point
  • Specify inside mount when ordering if you have the depth. See individual product description for minimum window frame depths.
